The Maison des Vins
The Maison des Vins, situated on the right bank of the Garonne river, is an 18th century chateau that used to bear the name « La Closiere ». It now houses the Museum of Wine and Vine of the 3 appellations Première Cotes de Bordeaux, Cadillac Cotes de Bordeaux, and Cadillac.
Purchased in 1997
It was prchased in 1997 by the professional Syndicate of the 2 appellations Premières Côtes de Bordeaux and Cadillac,. Two years later, on March 5th 1999, it was officially inaugurated by Madame Marilyse Lebranchu, Secretary of State for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Commerce and Trades, accompanied by Madame Odette Trupin, Member of Parliament for Gironde at the National Assembly.
Women and Men of Character
The then President of the synidicate, André Massieu, and his team ambitioned to make this site a centre of touristic, historical, and gastronomical interest, a new destination for tourists and wine-lovers alike.
A century later the winegrowers of Cadillac decided to purchase this noble house in order to preserve and perpetuate the viticultural heritage of our region.
Today the Maison des Vins is the departure point for a captivating voyage to discover the historic viticultural heart of our proud region.
Severaltimes winner of ‘the Best Of Wine Tourism’ Award
The Maison des Vins in Cadillac regularly organizes wine-centred activities for visitors, an initiative which has led to the attribution of the ‘Best of Wine Tourism’ on three occasions :
- the first time was in 2003 for the organization of circuits to discover the region by car
- the second occasion was in 2013 for the creation of the Wine and Vine Museum
- and a third award was attributed in 2016 for the creation of original workshops such as tasting courses for beginners, courses in gastronomy, and various workshops for children.
